What is naphyrone?
Naphyrone is a relatively recent drug and is a close relative of mephedrone. As a cathinone derivative many of the effects, risks and side effects are very similar to those experienced by users of other stimulant drugs in this category, such as speed and ecstasy.
They are commonly sold online as not for human consumption and labelled as something obscure like bath salts or pond cleaner. This is in an attempt to avoid prosecution for supplying drugs.
What are the effects of taking naphyrone?
Similar to other cathinones, the effects include feelings of euphoria, talkativeness and heightened alertness.
There are a number of side effects associated with naphyrone, which include anxiety, increased heart rate, paranoia, and the risk of fits.
There is little known about the long-term effects of taking naphyrone.
Is naphyrone addictive?
Similar to mephedrone and other cathinones it is likely to create a psychological dependence.
Is naphyrone legal?
No, it is illegal to possess or supply naphyrone on the Isle of Man.
What classification is naphyrone?
Naphyrone is classified as a Class B drug. Possession of Class B drugs carries a maximum penalty of 5 years imprisonment and a fine and a maximum penalty of 14 years imprisonment and a fine for supply.
Is naphyrone common on the Isle of Man?
There are no official figures to show how prevalent naphyrone is on the Isle of Man as it is still early days.
What are the risks of taking naphyrone?
Again the risks are similar to other cathinone derivatives and include anxiety, fits, reduced inhibitions, paranoia and even death. It can also affect heart rate, circulatory and nervous systems. There are increased risks associated with mixing naphyrone with other substances, including alcohol.
What does naphyrone look like?
Naphyrone is a white or off-white powder that is usually snorted or swallowed.
What should I do if I think somebody has a problem with naphyrone?
